Brain & heart coherence describes a state in which heart rate variability (HRV) and brain activity synchronize, providing the perfect balance in our bodies. The heart plays a crucial role in this; it is not only a pump that pumps blood through our body, but also an emotional center that constantly informs our brain about our emotional state.
It begins by focusing on breathing. Breathe in and out slowly, preferably six times a minute. This helps to calm the nervous system and pave the way for coherence. Visualize your breathing going through your heart or chest. This focus also helps create more heart coherence. Third, thinking about a positive experience or emotion, such as gratitude or love, increases heart rate variability. This, too, leads to increased coherence.
